When you're sitting in a drafty old house, local heating and cooling makes a world of difference. Instead of trying to heat or cool the whole place, you focus on just the room you're using. A little space heater under the desk in winter, or a small window unit in the bedroom during a summer heatwave. It's more energy-efficient, your utility bill thanks you, and you actually feel comfortable without waiting for the central system to catch up.
